Kumamoto Prefecture is located in the center of the island of Kyushu and faces the Ariake Sea. It is home to Mount Aso, the largest active volcano in Japan. Kumamoto Prefecture is rich in natural attractions such as Kurokawa Onsen, Tsuetate Onsen and the Amakusa Islands. The Prefecture is also famous throughout Japan for its savory noodle dishes like Kumamoto ramen and taipiien noodles. Basashimi, raw horse meat, is also a local delicacy.
