Kirishima -霧島- Kirishima City sits north of Kagoshima City and shares a border with Miyazaki Prefecture. The area is long believed to be the mystical land of the gods. In fact, its misty mountains are where the Japanese god Ninigi no Mikoto descended upon the earth in order to establish the lineage of Japanese Emperors and bring peace to the land. In fact, Japan’s first Emperor, Emperor Jinmu, is the reputed founder of nearby Kagoshima-jingu Shrine.

Kanoya -鹿屋- Kanoya is the third most populous city in Kagoshima Prefecture, after the capital city, Kagoshima, and Kirishima.
