The exhibit Azerbaijan: the Elegance of Fire shows Reza’s view of a people with an ancestral culture undergoing major evolution as they head towards modernity. Azerbaijan, Baku, Holy Myrrhbearers Cathedral, May 4, 2013. In 2000, the church was fully restored and became a Cathedral a year later. On the Saturday night before Easter Sunday, all of the candles in the cathedral are extinguished to represent the death of Christ. The Orthodox Church holds an Easter Vigil at sundown where a Paschalcandle is illuminated by a sacred flame.The growing light symbolizes the light of Christ coming into the world.  #Azerbaijan #Eleganceoffire #Rezaphoto

AZERBAIDJAN, Gouba, village de Khinalig, 7 mai 2012  Vue de la rivière de Khinalig, d’une fenêtre d’une maison familiale au sommet des montagnes du Caucase. Ce village nordique est désigné comme « une île dans la montagne » car il est le plus élevé et le plus reculé du pays. Vieux de plus de 5 000 ans, il n’a pratiquement pas changé et sa population, d’environ 1 200 personnes, appartient à la minorité Kettidt. Azerbaijan, Gobustan, Artistic and Historical Preserve, May 31, 2013 In collaboration with the 2nd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, an open-air performance of “The Shadows of Gobustan” ballet was presented by the Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Composed by Faraj Garayev and first performed in 1969, the ballet (dance movements and costumes) is inspired by Gobustan’sancient rock art engravings, some of which date back 40,000 years. #Azerbaijan #Eleganceoffire #Rezaphoto
