Pair of large cast brass table lamps designed by James Mont. The distinctive lamps feature archaic Chinese designs with a patinated verdigris finish on custom wood bases. High quality craftsmanship was used to construct detailed lamps finished to look like ancient bronze. The lamps were crafted in Japan in the 1950s. Dimensions: 29" H, 7" W x and 7" D. Each lamp is about 15 pounds in weight. The lamps are in excellent condition for their age and use. The lights work. No labels or maker's marks were identified.
Mont was considered one of the most prominent designers and decorators on the East Coast between the 1930s through 1960s. He designed furniture and lighting was considered modern, stylish, and dramatic, with many designs influenced by Asian antiques.
