undoubtedly Kolkata(calcutta, india ) is the last bastion of the hand-held rickshaws introduced by the british imperial rule. now declared a "heritage transport" just as the trams are. there were protests concerning the inhuman idea of human-powerd vehicle , the rickshaws, and talks for banning these traditional rickshaws (seen mostly in and around the oldest part of north kolkata) were on, which is somehow on hold concerning the issue of livelihood for rickshaw pullers.
