When it is not prudent to verbally redirect a student's behavior, I have found that providing a brief written notice is effective. It addresses the behavior concerns in an immediate but inconspicuous way while also providing documentation of the infraction. I keep a couple in my pocket or in an easily accessible place on my desk; I duplex them on card stock to help them hold up a little better.
