On May 19, 1956, Jean Kennedy married Stephen Edward Smith in a small chapel of St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. Jean gave birth to two sons, attorney Stephen Edward Smith, Jr. (b. 1957) and physician William Kennedy Smith (b. 1960). The couple also adopted two daughters, Amanda Mary Smith (b. 1967) and Kym Maria Smith (b. 1972). Jean and her husband were present at The Ambassador Hotel in LA on June 5, 1968, when her brother Bobby was assassinated.
