Burt (with face obscurred for security) and his Griffon. The RCAF's Bell 412 Griffon is used in the Combat Support role by 417 Squadron (4 Wing Cold Lake) and 439 Squadron (3 Wing Bagotville) and in the primary Search and Rescue role by 424 Squadron (8 Wing Trenton). The tiger stripes on the tail boom reflect the fact that 439 is known as the “Sabre-Tooth Tiger Squadron”. For the first 60 years of its life, it was a fighter squadron—Hurricane, Typhoon, Sabre, Starfighter and Hornet.
