1st flight of Curtiss XF-87 Blackhawk May 5,1948 & Curtiss decided to start production of 2nd prototype,it carried Westinghouse radar.June 1948,USAF decided not to wait for flight tests of 2nd prototype,& placed order for 88 aircraft under designation F-87A.Received baptismal name Blackhawk However order canceled in October of that year after testing by Air Force of prototype Northrop F-89 Scorpion & program was finally shelved.
