⚜️Simeon I of Bulgaria was educated in Constantinople and became fluent in Greek. What a lot of people misunderstand about Bulgarian and Byzantine relations is that they think Bulgaria wanted to destroy the Byzantine empire. Bulgaria wanted to be the Byzantine Empire. Thats why they emulated the Byzantines in almost every way and demanded on many occasions to marry Byzantine princesses so they could have legitimacy through royal dynasties in case they managed to conquer Constantinople.
