An oasis in the Syrian desert, north-east of Damascus, Palmyra contains the monumental ruins of a great city that was one of the most important cultural centres of the ancient world. From the 1st to the 2nd century, the art and architecture of Palmyra, standing at the crossroads of several civilizations, married Graeco-Roman techniques with local traditions and Persian influences.
Fresh Flowers - Rome, Italy. Note from photographer (rgb48) on flickr: Keeping Flowers Fresh, Rome Style Fountains are all around Rome giving a refreshing drink on a hot day. I walked past this fountain near Vatican City several times, but on this occasion, a nearby restaurant had placed its flowers for the evening in the cool fountain to keep them fresh while they prepared for the evening service.
What appears to be the likeness of faces carved in the rock of the Peak of Prophet Yunus. 1300 m above sea level. Highest point in Slinfayh: resort town belonging to Latakia. 50 km out of Latakia City. The historical Citadel of Salah al-Din is only 13 km west of Slinfayh.
