A rare small blue and white 'dragon' double-gourd vase, Mark and period of Jiajing (1522-1566)
Rare Ming Dynasty Yongle Period Ball Shape Dragon Vase H 21 1/2 in. This vase is decorated with a low-relief carving of a dragon admist water waves. The cobalt blue glaze was locally produced as evidenced by its light color. This indicates that this vase was made during the early Yongle Period before the Yongle Emperor sent Changhe to the South of China to get the Smalt cobalt mineral.
