A stunning J. Purdey & Sons double rifle in .600 Nitro Express. Engraved by Philippe Grifnee with a gold Rhino, Elephants and a stand of Cape Buffalos. The gold background inlay gives the gun a unique appearance and is tastefully set off by the deep relief engraving of the African game scenes.
Holland & Holland was approached by collector/hunter William Feldstein to build rifles based on a .700 cartridge developed by Feldstein and Jim Bell. While H&H had ceased production of .600 Nitro Express rifles, the scaled-up .700 cartridge, in platforms like this Philippe Grifnee engraved double rifle, sparked enough interest in shooters that even production of the .600 Nitro Express rifles resumed.
TR’s Fred R. Adolph Double Rifle- This Adolph double rifle bears the Presidential seal on both barrels and is attributed to use by President Theodore Roosevelt on western hunting excursions.
