Great idea for placemats - use ric-rack for edging to save time, and can use different print for backing to make them reversible (and hide backside of stitching!)

Redwork - Holy Bible Coverlet. The approximate date is 1892-1895, possibly made in Pennsylvania. It is in the Michigan State University Museum. This particular quilt combined Redwork with the Crazy quilt concept which was also a style popular at this same time. The stitcher used the herringbone stitch to break the squares up into "crazy pieces". Lots of info on Redwork on this site.
