The Family of James, Duke of York. The Duke (later King James II and VII) and Duchess of York (previously Anne Hyde) were painted by Peter Lely in between 1668 and 1670. Their two daughters, Mary (left) and Anne (right), later Queen Mary II and Queen Anne, were added by Benedetto Gennari in or after 1680. Windsor Castle is in the background. Date circa 1668-85
Queen Anne (1702-14) Her father was James II and VII, exiled King of England, Ireland, & Scotland. Anne was married to George, Prince of Denmark. Anne had a total of 12 miscarriages, 1 stillbirth & 4 children who sadly did not surive infancy. Anne can be credited for achieving the unification of England, thus creating "Great Britain" as we know it. Anne also invented the Royal Ascot for horseracing. She was also the last monarch of England to "touch" to heal her subjects from scrofula.
