Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina. In their role as patrol aircraft, Catalinas participated in some of the most notable naval engagements of World War II. The aircraft's parasol wing and large waist blisters provided excellent visibility and combined with its long range and endurance, made it well suited for the task.

This is one of the few photographs of the Avro CF 100. It was so far advanced in it's day that Preident Kennedy asked the Prime Minister of Canada, John Diefenbaker to scrap it for fear it would make the Russians too nervous and heighten conflict during the Cold War. All the blueprints and everything associated with this plane were destroyed.
PBY Catalina. 0.5 calibre machine guns were fitted in the waist blisters and could deliver a shattering blow to any U Boat that had not managed to dive fast enough. But, if it did dive, the depth charges would usually take it out.
