Lufft printed Cranach’s eighty-seven woodcuts without the usual border, enabling them to move dynamically on the page. The centered captions above and the thick rule below provide balance in this predominantly pictorial book.
1521.DESIGN - Lucas Cranach the Elder illustrated for Martin Luther to highlight the corruption of the Catholic Church. This helped launch the Protestant Reformation in the West. Christ is shown suffering while the Pope is shown as living an opulent life.
