Use water, food coloring and red and blue liquid paraffin (for oil lamps) in water bottles to teach primary and secondary colors.  The water and oil only mix for a few seconds then separate into two colors again- fun, cool, simple, educational science project for the beginning of the year!  Remember to put a little hot glue on the inside of the caps so they don't open!
