Allégorie du Bon Gouvernement dans la ville, 1337-1339, Ambrogio Lorenzetti (Sienne, Palais Public). Les neuf danseuses qui dominent par leur taille les autres personnages, sont certainement emblématiques. Bien que certains historiens de l’art aient considéré que ces figures étaient de sexe masculin et leurs robes fantastiques le signe d’une mascarade, peut-être faut-il voir en elles les “filles des Neuf”. Leur danse est sans aucun doute ici une sorte de sublimation de la Paix.
