Kantha embroidery. Kantha is a type of embroidery practised in rural areas of West Bengal (India). Women in Bengal typically use old saris and cloth and layer them with Kantha stitches to make a light blanket, throw or bedspread, especially for children. The traditional form of Kantha embroidery was a simple running stitch along the edges but can be more sophisticated. The stitching often gives a slightly wrinkled, wavy effect to the cloth.
