Mangers and Myrrh: The Language of the Nativity Creche [kresh, kreysh] A creche is a modeled representation of Mary, Joseph and the other players in the Christmas story assembled around the baby Jesus in the stable at Bethlehem. The term is derived from the Old French cresche. In the New Testament, the church fathers Matthew and Luke were the first to write about the birth of Jesus and the trying circumstances to which Mary and Joseph were subjected during the Nativity.
