Detroit Race Riot WWII 1943. Arriving in Detroit,blacks found the northern bigotry was as bad as they left in the deep South.They were excluded from all public housing except Brewster Housing Projects,forced to live in homes without indoor plumbing & paid rents 2 to 3 times higher than families in white districts.They faced discrimination from the public & unfair treatment by the Detroit Police. V.P.Wallace stated we could not "fight to crush Nazi brutality abroad & condone race riots here."
African American man is looking for a job and happens to come across a "Help Wanted" sign. However, this man then realizes that under the help wanted letters states "White Only". Meaning that he cannot apply for the job or even have the chance to earn some money because of his race. (Denisse)
