Not your every day parrot, very few people have ever seen one because they live in such a remote region. The road along the transcontinental railway line which traverses the heart of their habitat is not one to go on without an extra spare tyre! However, they have also been seen not far from the main Eyre Highway between Mundrabilla and Eucla in acacia scrub.

Since the advent of European settlement and subsequent agriculture, Galahs have spread in Australia to such an extent, particularly to coastal regions from the inland, that they have become an everyday bird to all except inner city dwellers.That such a beautiful bird can be regarded as a pest in many regions may seem amazing to some non-Australians, but that indeed is the case.
