Snow Falling on Conifers is a top-down, circular yoke sweater that is knit in the round. Sleeve stitches are picked up and also knit in the round, making this sweater seamless. You can choose to make it full length or cropped; sleeves can also be full length, or any length you choose, from short, to elbow, to three-quarter, to long. The motifs include pine cones, branches, snowflakes and trees--all the elements of a forest in winter. The pattern is written so that you can choose which motifs you want to use. I used sport weight yarn for the MC. The gray version uses Abundant Earth Fiber Sacred Ground, which unfortunately is not available at the moment. The brown version uses Knotty Pine Fiber Co. Snowy Range Sport. The pattern emerges through the wonders of Spincycle Dyed in the Wool or Nocturne, although you could use a solid color (or several colors) of sport weight yarn. Sizes are: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9) 33.3 (36.6, 40, 43.5, 46.5) (50, 53.5, 56.5, 60) inches at bust 84.6 (93, 101.6, 110.5, 118.4) (127, 135.4, 144, ) cm. at bust The sweater is designed to be worn with two to four inches of positive ease. Yardage requirements: Sport weight (Approx. 200 yds/50 grams) MC (background solid): 964 (1020, 1133, 1255, 1362) (1476, 1535, 1648, 1706) yards 881 (933, 1036, 1148, 1245) (1350, 1403, 1507, 1560) m. CC (design color): 463 (491, 545, 605, 655) (711, 738, 793, 821) yards 423 (449, 498, 553, 599) (650, 675, 725, 751) m. This amount includes an extra 10%. NOTE: Yardage is an estimate. Colorwork gauge and yardage can vary from knitter to knitter, depending on yarn used, tension, number of plies, etc. Purchasing extra yarn may be necessary. A solid or semi-solid color is best for the background, in order to make certain that the forest motifs will show up clearly. German short rows are used to raise the back of the neck on the sweater, and a video link is included to demonstrate the technique.
