Eugène Isabey, Jardin à Varengeville, Paris, Musée du Louvre
This new untitled work by Indiana artist, T.C. Steele, was found during a routine cleaning (it's owned by the state museum); now the mystery is trying to find out what the painting is of-- it's from 1890, and Steele was painting in Indiana at the time. A building and a person are in the painting. They've shown photos of the building around but no one so far has been able to i.d. the building.
When Chicago art conservator Barry Bauman removed T.C. Steele’s “An Old Garden” canvas from its frame for restoration last month, he discovered an 1890 Steele landscape that had been hidden nearly a century.
