LONG RANGE DESERT GROUP LRDG DURING SECOND WORLD WAR (HU 25299) Object description Portrait of Captain David Lloyd Owen with Private 'Tich' Cave on the back of the 30 cwt truck behind, outside the Farouk Hotel in Siwa. Lloyd Owen joined the Yeomanry ('Y') Patrol of the Long Range Desert Group in mid 1941 and went on to lead it after the original Commanding Officer was wounded.
The 'Infantryman'. Corporal M Smith of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, with his rifle over his shoulder at the main Headquarters of the Eighth Army in the San Angelo area. Corporal Smith, a former metal polisher from Birmingham, served in North Africa and Egypt before going to Italy in early 1944. He was involved in the fighting north of Cassino and on the Garigliano River.
