Captain Rufus D. Pettit's Battery B, 1st New York Light Artillery, in Fort Richardson near Arlington, VA. Built by the Union Army in 1861 as part of the Defense of Washington. Thomas J. Kernan was in the 2nd NY Heavy Artillery.
Anna Edson Taylor was an American daredevil. After Taylor's first husband died in the Civil War, she moved around working as a teacher. With hopes of achieving fame and fortune, she decided she would become the first person to ride the Niagara Falls in a barrel. In 1901, did it while several thousand people watched. Her manager embezzled all the money from the stunt and she died in poverty.
