France. Swatch book of cotton fabric samples from Alsace. 1827-1830.
Samples of dyed felt included with the manuscript “De la teinture des laines,” ca. 1708-1764. Most names given to the color samples correspond to the list given in the article on dyeing in the Encyclopédie, where at least 80 different colors are listed for wool. Each was produced with a different dye. fibers of wool, linen or silk were affected differently by the same dyestuffs. Thus, two different dyes were required to achieve the same red in wool and silk.| MIT Exhibition

Mostly 1 x 2” swatches, brown fabrics, assorted types. Marked in ink, ”Manchester England 1771”. NHS 91.16.14
