A generic Germanic warrior, 3rd to 5th cent. AD. The hair styles in the top right are of the Suebi tribes and were called Suebian knots. The axes, were throwing axes more commonly found among the Franks. The decorative pieces were shield decorations for elite warriors and were probably used only on shields used in ceremonies. By this time, most if not all Germanic warriors had swords as well as spears.
