Prince Phillip with his bride, Princess Mafalda of Italy, daughter of King Victor Emanuel III and sister of Umberto II, the last king of Italy (he reigned only a month). His marriage to Mafalda allowed Prince Phillip to act as a liason between Hitler and Mussolini. However, Hitler always disliked Mafalda and when her father had Mussolini arrested Hitler took his anger out on the Princess, sending her to Buchenwald where she died from injuries sustained in an Allied bombing raid.
