This is the famous ziggurat at Ur. The ancient city, which literally translates to “city” in Sumerian and Akkadian, was one of the most important of the Sumerians’ cities in the 4th and early 3rd milleniums BCE. The ziggurat is to the Sumerian moon god Nanna, known as Sin to the Babylonians. It is quite impressive, standing 21 m (68.9 ft) high. It is very well preserved, and was known as E-gish-shir-gal (“house of the great light”)
