Spoon Busk Corset: 1880-1885, sateen cotton, twill cotton, embroidery, lace, silk, whalebone. "A corset cost anything between 12 shillings and 6 pence (65 pence) and 21 shillings (1.05 [pounds]) at this date. The mechanisation of the corset-making trade (with sewing machines in factories rather than staymakers in workshops) meant that more corsets were available at lower prices to more women."

The decade up to 1810 was the last gasp for knee breeches worn fashionably with stockings, except for evening dress (although older and more conservative men continued to wear them, just as nowadays they hang onto older hairstyles and tie-widths).
