WORLD WONDERS ☪ :: NGC 3190 ~ The Predator: is a spiral galaxy with tightly wound arms and lying in the constellation Leo. It was discovered by William Herschel in 1784. In 2002 two supernovae were observed in the galaxy. A Brazilian amateur astronomer Paulo Cacella detected one supernova in the southeastern part in March 2002 (SN 2002bo), and then an Italian team, while studying the first one, detected a second supernova (SN 2002cv) on the other side two months later.
Black Marble - Americas NASA image acquired April 18 - October 23, 2012 This image of North and South America at night is a composite assembled from data acquired by the Suomi NPP satellite in April and October 2012. The new data was mapped over existing Blue Marble imagery of Earth to provide a realistic view of the planet.
Exploring Universe: NGC 3627: Revealing Hidden Black Holes The spiral galaxy NGC 3627 is located about 30 million light years from Earth. This composite image includes X-ray data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory (blue), infrared data from the Spitzer Space Telescope (red), and optical data from the Hubble Space Telescope and the Very Large Telescope (yellow).
This composite image, combining data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory and the Spitzer Space Telescope shows the molecular cloud Cepheus B, located in our Galaxy about 2,400 light years from the Earth. A molecular cloud is a region containing cool interstellar gas and dust left over from the formation of the galaxy and mostly contains molecular hydrogen. - Credit: X-ray (NASA/CXC/PSU/K. Andromeda Galaxy -- The most famous of all galaxies is also the most distant object visible to the naked eye, and the nearest major galaxy to our Milky Way. In some ways its spiral structure resembles that of our own galaxy, but it is about twice as massive. The galaxy is most visible in the northern sky towards the end of autumn and beginning of winter. Andromeda's proximity will be deadly to our galaxy. Astronomers estimate that it will collide with the Milky Way in about 5 billion years.
