Large porcelain serving dish with bracket-lobed edge painted in underglaze blue and reserved decoration; inside with a raised white relief design of lotus blooms seen from different angles, against a blue ground; the centre with various plants, including melon, grape vines, morning glory, water weeds and plantain; the rim with a wave design; the outside with a band of lotus scrolls contained within a border of lines; the base unglazed.

A rare blue and white dish, Yuan Dynasty, circa 1268-1371 AD. This is boldly painted in the center in tones of inky-blue with a long-legged peahen with outstretched wings, elegantly craning its neck amidst a peony bough issuing leaves and lush blossoms, encircled at the shallow cavetto by a broad lotus scroll and a border of cresting waves on the barbed everted rim. Diameter 17 1/2 in., 44.5 cm.
