Ho Chi Minh City (called Saigon under the French) in Vietnam is now a booming metropolis of more than 7 million people. I did 8 months of research in Saigon and Hanoi archives for my dissertation on French colonial Indochina.

Exploring the awe inspiring Basilica St. Denis (in French, Basilique royale de Saint-Denis), an early Gothic cathedral and resting place of not only the French monarchs but, as the legend goes, St. Denis himself. The basilica is accessible via metro line 13.
