Van Meegeren’s Trial in Amsterdam, (1947) This is probably one of the most ‘celebrated’ cases of forgery. In 1945 Han van meegeran confessed that he was the artist responsible for the eight paintings, of which six had been sold as legitimate Vermeers.

Peter Greenway, A Zed and Two Noughts, (1986) Film Still : ‘A Zed and Two Noughts’ There are multiple references to Vermeer throughout this 1985 film by Peter Greenway. The surgeon and nephew named van Meegeren complicates the eccentric plot somewhat, continuing his relative’s obsession with deception, by staging and photographing living versions of Vermeer’s work.
