Admiring a Folding Fan 1910s (by Blue Ruin1) Momotaro, seated on the left, and four other Maiko (Apprentice Geisha) admiring the decoration on a folding fan. A vintage postcard from the late 1910s or early 1920s.
A GAGGLE OF GEISHA -- Kimonos and Faces from Old Meiji-Era Japan by Okinawa Soba, via Flickr. Besides having some nice, rich tones, this 100-year-old hand colored collotype photo has a slightly shallow depth of field that throws our fine group of ladies into softness as we move toward the back. Nice kimonos for sure --- and a wide range of expressions and feeling being shown here.
