In 1841, Kentucky-born Dr John Pollard Harrison (1796 - 1849) was appointed Professor of Materia Medica and Lecturer on Pathology at the Medical College of Ohio. In 1847, Dr Harrison became Associate Editor of the Western Lancet. Caspar Berthelsen Bartholin (Caspar Bartholin the Elder - Caspar Bartholin le Vieux), né le 12 février 1585 à Malmø au Danemark (aujourd'hui en Suède) et décédé le 13 juillet 1629, était un polymathe, acceptant finalement un professorat en médecine à l'université de Copenhague en 1613. Il a plus tard, enseigné la théologie dans la même université.

Dr. Hoffmann was a German physician and professor of medicine who introduced ether into medicine under the brand name Anodyne. "Hoffmann's anodyne" or compound spirit of ether also contained ethyl alcohol. It was used to treat intestinal cramps, earache, toothache, kidney stones, gallstones, painful menstruation and much else besides.
