DECEMBER 18, 2016. In Search of Greener Pastures By Jetje Japhet. As the sun sets over the African nation of Zimbabwe, a herd of elephants journeys over the plains near the Limpopo River. Venturing across this “soft but harsh and beautiful and endless” landscape, as described by Jetje Japhet, the elephants were likely in search of food or water. “I was lucky to be there” to capture this image, Japhet writes.

JANUARY 16, 2017. Was Here By Kathy F. A garter snake, also known as a garden snake, left an eerie, late-summer memento in Kathy F.’s northeastern Pennsylvania flower bed. “I was surprised to see how perfectly the skin had come off and [was] still in the shape of the snake,” she says. “[Garter snakes] are very common in the gardens and yards where I live. I placed it on a hosta leaf and took this macro shot to emphasize the details of the snake's skin.”
