Leonora King (1851 - 1925) was born in Farmersville (now Athens), Ontario. Since Canadian medical schools did not admit female students at that time, she attended the U. of Michigan. She traveled to China as a missionary. King operated her "hospitals" from temples, back doors and dilapidated inns until she successfully treated the wife of China's greatest viceroy. By 1884 her practice was devoted entirely to Chinese women and children. King served for 47 years in China.
