March 10th Fact: Hemophilia is carried on the X chromosome. A women who is a carrier of #hemophilia has the genetic mutation on one of her X chromosomes. Approximately 1/3 of women have been diagnosed as “symptomatic carriers,” & experience bleeding problems like nose bleeds, heavy menstrual bleeding, unexplained bruises, bleeding gums, & joint/muscle bleeds. By definition, if a woman has clotting factor levels less than 50% & experiences symptoms, they have mild hemophilia
Approximately 1/3 of women have been diagnosed as "symptomatic carriers," and experience bleeding issues. By definition, if a woman has clotting factor levels less than 50%, she has mild #hemophilia.
