Franz Weis drives his F5000 car in the 1971 Lime Rock F5000 championship race. Weis built this car from an 1966 GM built Indy car chassis given to Jim Hall. Chaparral was never able to do anything with the chassis. Weis used it as the basis of his own hobby project. Franz raced it in two races, finishing 14th at Donnybrooke and crashed at Lime Rock, having qualified 13th. While not an official Chaparral car, Weis used the traditional number 66.
