Annie Edson Taylor was an American adventurer who, on her 63rd birthday, October 24, 1901, became the first person to survive a trip over Niagara Falls in a barrel. She is pictured with the cat she sent over the falls in the barrel a few days earlier to test its strength.
Anna Edson Taylor was an American daredevil. After Taylor's first husband died in the Civil War, she moved around working as a teacher. With hopes of achieving fame and fortune, she decided she would become the first person to ride the Niagara Falls in a barrel. In 1901, did it while several thousand people watched. Her manager embezzled all the money from the stunt and she died in poverty.
