We think someone might have caught onto the fact that not everyone wants a box full of the same plum. How about this to nrighten your September fruit bowl? Different varieties with a slightly different taste and loads of colour.

These are rather special chillies that come from the South of France - Piment d'Espelette. They are governed by AOC rules and, after careful cultivation by many growers, they are all sold off on one day at an auction. One kilo strings are the most attractive way of presenting these sweet and not too hot chillies. Many are dried and powdered for other uses but the flavour remains. Well worth hunting them down.

Pissenlit or Dandelion. This is the green winter version of the popular white one we offer more in the summer. It is green because it is grown outdoors in the natural light whlie the white one grows in the dark.

This is Serna grape. It is a seedless variety and quite possibly one of the most attractive ones that we offer. It has a subtle flavour.

The first of the fresh chestnuts. These are hand picked and sorted so they really are special. They are also a calibre G0 which makes them pretty large - other calibres also available! If you don't want to mess around peeling them, we can supply cooked and peeled ones either vac-packed or frozen.

Just squeezing in before the end of the month are these French Nicois or Menton lemon. They are untreated making them very user friendly and the flavour is lemony without too much harsh acidity.

Exalta seedless grapes have a very round berry but a good, sweet flavour. It is now down to you to decide if it is the large berry of the Centennial or this size!

Garlic is something the French care greatly about and there is no greater example of this than the Lautrec pink garlic. Strings like the one shown are a must for those that want true garlic taste, perhaps even with a hint of heat, and a high oil content. The king of garlic.

Wet, or fresh, walnuts are always a favorite this time of year. The shells are still damp and the nut inside is creamy in taste with no bitterness. For an even creamier taste try peeling the brown skin off the nut.

This is a great way to sum up the month. Plums are delicious right now with a very good selection of colours and flavours about, and there is also the start of the nut season. Chestnuts are the first and fresh (wet) walnuts will be available from tomorrow (07.09.12)

These are decorative squash known as Coloquinte. The varied colours and textures make a fantastic addition to the range of squash coming into season now.
