OMG that dress!: Photo
Gown in "French purple", 1790, Spain, silk, taffeta, silver, cotton, linen, metallic lace applied to silver wound silk. In Spain this dress was "vaquero hecho a la inglesa" [rough translation: cowboy in the manner of "robe à l'anglaise] or just simply "vaquero" [cowboy] Popular in the last decade of the eighteenth century. Side view: Polonaise, Spain, 1775-1785, Salmon silk & fabric decoration with applied green silk taffeta. 5 covered cylindrical buttons at the wrist. The seams are covered by a braided cord that ends at the waist loop and tassel trimmings. Popular during the reign of Carlos III. Spanish identity of this polonaise is in the decorative elements, such as draping shoulder pads that cover the shoulder seams. (c) Museo del Traje
