President Truman made the announcement official that WWII had ended. 5,400+ St. Louisans would become casualties of WWII by the Japans surrender, Aug 1945. End of the war meant thousands of St. Louisans working in war-related production would lose their jobs, 80,000 losing jobs after Japan’s surrender.
