Happy Winter Olympics from La Belle Epoque! Watching the beginning of the figure skating competitions yesterday inspired us to take a look at this original (and beautiful!) World Ice Skating Championship poster from 1986. We love watching figure skating -- what is your favorite winter sport to watch?
This advertising poster for Dutheil bycyles uses exaggeration. Claiming these bicycles are faster and smoother than a racehorse-so much so that they can outrace one. The subject is set against the colors red, white and blue, the colors of the French flag, adding a sense of patriotism to the advertisement. http://www.vintageposters.us/vintage-poster/New-Acquisitions/1945/--A--Dutheil---Manufacture-de-Bicyclettes-
Today we celebrate the summer. Lawrence is amongst the best known, 20th century African-American painters and was renowned for depicting the history and struggles of African Americans. His lengthy artistic career was due, in some part, to the fact that his work often portrayed important periods in African-American history. http://www.vintageposters.us/vintage-poster/New-Acquisitions/1909/Olympische-Spiele-Munchen-1972
