Our knees are made to flex, extend, and rotate. Through rotation, most of us aren’t that strong, and definitely not when it comes down to these odd positions that we often see in surfing. That is why, with Level Up in my training programmes, I devote time and attention to strengthening the knees 360 degrees. In traditional training, I don’t see this being often paid attention to, although it is extremely important in many sports. There is a time and a place for every exercise. My message is that you can only benefit from some land-based training. Definitely, if you aren’t used to surfing, you will not be used to it once you can surf.
