After the battle of Carrhae 53 BC. This was an important battle between the Parthian Empire and the Roman Republic, it was fought near the town of Carrhae, in 53 BC. The Parthian Spahbod Surena decisively defeated a superior Roman invasion force, led by Marcus Licinius Crassus. Carrhae Harran was a major ancient city in Upper Mesopotamia whose site is near the modern village of Altınbaşak, Turkey, 24 miles southeast of Şanlıurfa (ancient Edessa).

Surena or Suren, also known as Rustaham Suren[1] (died 53 BC) was a Parthian spahbed ("general" or "commander") during the 1st century BC. He was the leader of the House of Suren and was best known for defeating the Romans in the Battle of Carrhae. Under his command Parthians decisively defeated a numerically superior Roman invasion force under the command of Marcus Licinius Crassus.
