One thing you may remember about Easter Sunday as a child is hot combs as straighteners. We don't use them much anymore, but they still come in handy.

Back in my day I learned a number of virtuous characteristics by virtue of the ubiquitous pressing or hot comb. After a couple of hours spent on having your hair washed, dried and pressed you learned fortitude, patience, deferred gratitude and forgiveness (for that accidental forehead burn that you covered up with bangs). I wear 2-strand natural twists now and wish my mother had known then what I learned later: I'm a girly who's curly and more than happy to be nappy ;-)))
